There are few choices available persons with sickle cell disease to partner with an adult hematologists
in California. A good Internist familiar with or interested in caring forpersons with sickle cell disease is a good alternative if you do not have a hematologist.

It is recommended that a hematologist is part of your care team and that adults
with sickle cell disease receive an annual physical with a hematologist.

Important information for persons with sickle cell disease and providers:

Individuals with sickle cell disease may be eligible for a state insurance program called the Genetically Handicapped Persons Program (GHPP).  The GHPP is a state funded program which coordinates care and helps pay for medical costs for persons with sickle cell disease.  Anyone who is 21 years of age and older and who is a resident of California may apply.  Those under 21 may receive care through the county California Children Services program.  To apply, please call the GHPP at (916) 654-0503 or (800) 639-0597.

Please note: this is a partial listing of physicians:

There are other physicians providing medical care to adults with sickle cell disease and we may not be aware of them at this time.  If you have knowledge of other physicians you would like to recommend, please contact our office at (310) 693-0247 or by email at info@scdfc.org.
