For Immediate Release -- September 16th, 2001
On a beautiful sun drenched day by the ocean, the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of
California held its 6th Annual Golf Classic at Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho
Palos Verdes on September 14th. The event, sponsored by such companies as Herzog
Contracting Corp, MCA, KTLA Channel 5, and Centinela Hospital, brought out a host of
players on a day where the spirits were high and the scores were low.
With expert leadership from tournament chair Doris LaCour, the field consisted of 120
golfers, our largest turn out in several years. The players enjoyed lunch & dinner,
awards, prizes, and goodie bags second to none, thanks in large part to very
generous donors who contributed great items and prizes. Special thanks go out to the
entire Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California staff who worked tirelessly on the
event, as well as to our Super Volunteers, the Tee Divas. Playing in her first
Sickle Cell Golf Classic, SCDFC President & CEO Mary E. Brown best summed up the event
as she left the final green: Wow! What a great day!
