The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California has begun a series of sickle cell
disease education seminars and workshops targeting parents of children and adults with
sickle cell disease. These educational workshops are made possible from grants
received from the California Healthcare Foundation and the Health Resources Services
Administration.
PAIN MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES
On May 3, 2003, the SCDFC is sponsoring a workshop entitled "Taking
Control of Pain, III". The workshop's topics will include the
following:
Social Security: The Social Security Administration administers
SSI and Medicare. Come find out how to apply for SSI and how to appeal if you have
been denied.
Department of Rehabilitation: The Department of Rehabilitation
helps people with disabilities get and keep jobs. This agency may even help with the
cost of transportation.
Genetically Handicapped Persons Program: The GHPP is a state program
that pays for the medical costs for many adults with sickle cell disease.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
at the Centinela Hospital Medical Center, Ira Kaufman Pavillion located
at 555 E. Hardy Street, Inglewood, California.
