 PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

A Safe Place to Turn When You Feel Completely Alone

It's hard to imagine that anyone else can know what it is like for you to once again deal with:

1)  Another pain crisis, fever or infection,

2)  Explaining to your child's teacher why he/she has missed another day of school,

3)  Explaining to your employer why you cannot come to work today.

4)  Managing your own feelings if you secretly feel guilt and cannot stop thinking "How did this happen to my child?"

You are not alone!

Every year approximately 150 babies are born with sickle cell disease in California.  It is estimated that there are 70,000 - 90,000 people with sickle cell disease in the United States.  This means that there are many people facing similar challenges and who can understand what you are going through.

The SCDFC's Parent Support Group is just one way to meet other parents, share your experience and learn from others.  The Parent Support Group allows parents of children with sickle cell disease to share the resources, successes, challenges and feelings that are unique to families of children with sickle cell disease.

The Parent Support Group is FREE of charge to families.

We meet on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at the SCDFC office.
